Harley Cafe Racer

EXCLUSIVE Top US custom builder Roland Sands Design has taken a long, hard look at the evergreen Harley Sportster, and put together a very sexy package of modifications. Here are the very first pictures of the RSD Café kit that will be on sale soon—a kit that’s designed to be affordable, so owners will be able to buy the parts in stages to spread the cost. The basics will include pipes (built by Vance and Hines), moto pegs, and a coil and key relocation bracket. Also on the list are wheels, some very slick brake discs, a new pulley and a fork brace.


At the moment, the café seat, gauge/headlight relocation kit and velocity stack are still at the prototype stage, but they should be in production by mid 2010. The result looks stunning to our eyes—check the full set of images on our Facebook page—and there’s even more good news to come: in the New Year, RSD is turning the XR1200 into a fully functioning race bike that’s still street legal. Can’t wait to see that one.

Paramount Bar - Tom Dixon

Paramount Bar has now been open in London for a year, and is still one of London's coolest bars. Tom Dixon started life as an industrial designer/artist, and has now branched into interior design, and has forged a very successful career for himself.


But don't go thinking that you can just decide to stroll in on a Saturday night, oh no, you will need to apply for membership and be assessed by a panel to decide if you're worthy. Sounds very proper, and should mean that there are no undesireables to ruin your Saturday night.

Mean doesn't mean bad

This year's SEMA Show served as a launch pad for the Mavizen TTX02 electric motorcycle, a highly anticipated green bike that will test its mettle at the TTXGP race in May of next year. Azhar Hussain, whose name may be familiar as the founder of TTGXP, is the entrepreneur behind this race-bike. It's still a rumor but it looks like the chassis of the TTX02 is based on the KTM RC8 superbike, a solid platform well known for superior handling at high speeds. As a forgone conclusion, this new dynamo should perform quite well.

The Mavizen TTX02 is powered by two Agni 95 electric motors that output a total of 100 peak horsepower. Torque should be absolutely phenomenal. Three lithium-ion battery packs provide all of the juice required. No word on the mileage yet, but it will at least be capable of running the 38 miles of the TTXGP Isle of Man race course.

One of the coolest aspects of this bike is the fact that it is basically a "laptop on wheels" according to Hussain. The dash-mounted computer runs on Linux and has its own static IP address, on-board web server and wireless connectivity. The price for the Mavizen TTX02 should come in around $40,000.

BMW K1000RR

Originally codenamed the K46, BMW released photos to the German press this morning of what is now called the S1000RR. Dates for when the bike will be hitting dealer floors is still unknown, though homologation rules give BMW until December. BMW has also said the road version is to have traction control. We think it looks fantastic with subtle touches of German flourish. That said, we’re curious to see how BMW incorporates its trademark offset headlights. No word on heated grips either. (UPDATE: a transcript from BMW’s General Director has been released, stating that only 1000 S1000RR’s will be built by the end of next year.

Another city bike

Our project, simplicity in inner city bicycling, was at first glance a fun aesthetic opportunity in new trends, color, and materials. Our target lived / worked in an inner city environment with minimal space. Bicycling at this level can be more about fashion and culture than speed and performance.

After the first few brainstorm sessions we knew there where bigger opportunities. The project ended up rethinking what a “frame” meant, getting ride of basic key components, and creating a new type of compact bicycling. Inspired by the first the "hobby horse" from it's simplicity and secondly the cafe race scene. Each is an exercise in stripping something down to its core.
